Design Hero: Jonathan Ive

The 50s and 60s had Dieter Rams, the legendary designer behind Braun products.

We have Jonathan "Jony" Ive, Senior VP of Industrial Design at Apple Inc.

British-born Ive is the one to thank for the groundbreaking design of iMac, PowerBook G4, G4 Cube, MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPod, iPhone, and the iPad

Ive is also a great believer in Rams' ten principles to "good design".

Here are some quotes from the man who is arguably the best industrial designer of our generation:

"Ideas are so fragile, aren't they? It's so easy to sort of miss an idea because they can be so quiet, or to snuff an idea out. I think that a sense of  inquisitiveness, and the willingness to try, are so important for design - for developing those tentative, fragile ideas into a real product."

"We try to solve very complicated problems without letting people know how complicated the problem was. That's the appropriate thing."

"It's very easy to be different, but very difficult to be better."
