Isang Litrong Liwanag (A Liter of Light) is a sustainable lighting project that aims to bring eco-friendly Solar Bottle Bulb to the 3 million disprivileged households in metropolitan Manila who are living without adequate electricity. It was developed by a nonprofit organization called the MyShelter Foundation together with students from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
The Solar Bottle Bulb is based on the principles of Appropriate Technologies - a concept that provides simple and replicable solutions that address basic needs in developing communities.
"This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often. If you don't like something, change it. If you don't like your job, quit. If you don't have enough time, stop watching TV. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop. They will be waiting for you when you start doing things you love. Stop overanalyzing. Life is simple. Ope your mind, arms, and heart to new things and people. We are united in our differences. Some opportunities only come once, seize them. Travel often; Getting lost will help you find yourself. All emotions are beautiful. When you eat, appreciate every last bite. Ask the next person you see what their passion is. Share your inspiring dream with them. Life is about the people you meet, and the things you create with them. So go out and start creating. Life is short. Live your dream and share your passion."
These oil paintings are by artist Emily Eveleth, who has been painting donuts for two decades. That dedication is kind of amazing. On why she chose donuts as her subject:
"What I immediately found compelling... was the appeal of the irony in presenting, in a seriously and formally painted manner and on a monumental scale, an object that was at once so ubiquitous, so ordinary, so everyday. The object of my paintings, is not necessarily the subject. But I do like that it keeps coming back to the object. I’m not trying to negate that."
In other news: We are now craving for something cranberry-filled.
